The sea salt of Trapani Along the western coast of Sicily, betwen Trapani and Marsala, you can find the most important salt pans of Europe for the quality and plenty of the product. We can part the basins in two groups: in the first one the sea-water, seped into the basin with the high tide, is clarified and concentrated until becoming saturated of sodium chloride; A second kind of basins folows the frida , the pots of raw water, where the water is pumped thanks to the wind mil, being the advanced level to the one of the sea. It is convenient to instal the air-engine here rather than in corespondence of the first basin, because the water is already reduced of a third party of the water entered the frida for efect of the first evaporation. Their name comes from their midle position betwen the preparatory basins and the basins that wil give mature water for the salt deposition. These basins are smaler both in surface and in depth, since they receive warmer and denser water than in the previous basins. A fourth order of evaporation basins folow this one, it is constituted from warm basins which at the end give mature water ready for the sodium chloride deposition. Finaly we can find recently the warm and last basin caled sintina servant , which facilitates the regular distribution of the mature water in the compartment of the salt.
